According to the university’s web news correspondent, Dr. Payam Kabiri, member of the Cochrane Iran Center and Consultant in Research Evaluation and Scientometrics, spoke at the one-day conference“Application of Artificial Intelligence in Health Research”, held at the University of Rehabilitation Sciences and Social Health.
He stated that“Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of humanity’s leading technological achievements whose use in the coming years will be inevitable; therefore, ethical application in scientific communities is absolutely essential.”
Dr. Kabiri added that although AI and other technologies offer remarkable advantages, scientific and ethical principles must guide responsible use. He described AI as anintelligent assistantat the service of humankind, emphasizing thatmedical and scientific communities should benefit from it responsibly and ethically.
Highlighting future implications, he noted:
“The current reality shows that in the near future, various professionals — including university professors, physicians, therapists, nurses, and other health workers — will inevitably use AI. In this context, healthcare colleagues who employ AI ethically will naturally outperform those unfamiliar with this technology.”
Dr. Kabiri stressed the importance of ethical scientific research, stating that the university’s inherent duty, along with producing knowledge, is to createimpactful projects and logical, evidence-based datato inform policymaking. He expressed hope that researchers and the medical scientific community will help advance national development throughresponsible and committed use of AI.
In the same meeting, Dr. Talie Zarifian, Director of Medical Information and Scientific Resources at the university, explained that the one-day conference was organized as part of a series onresearch effectiveness.
She stated:“The growing wave of AI adoption by researchers across disciplines requires familiarity with and ethically guided use of this tool in scientific production, as a research assistant.”
Dr. Zarifian emphasized the need toadapt to the expanding presence of AI:
“Like any new technology, AI can be used consciously and ethically in the production and dissemination of science. It undoubtedly brings both opportunities and challenges, and we hope that by acquiring necessary knowledge and skills, we can create meaningful benefits for our university and society.”
