A Smart Scientometrics Approach: Health System Resilience and Sustainable Security
Sustaining Scientific Work Is the Cornerstone of the Country’s Future Resilience
The head of the Ministry of Health’s Center for Development and Coordination of Scientific Information and Publications paid tribute to researchers as “defenders of science” and called the strengthening of scientometric infrastructure under sanctions a strategic move
According to the university’s website correspondent, Dr. Kourosh Kamali, head of the Center for Development and Coordination of Scientific Information and Publications at the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, spoke at the Scientometrics Conference hosted by the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences. Pointing to the pressures of an increasingly competitive environment for universities, he stressed the need to meet international standards of research evaluation.
“Given where the country stands today, including the limits on access to scientific resources and the internet, strengthening scientometric infrastructure is more than a scholarly necessity,” he noted. “It is a strategic step to protect and advance knowledge within the health system.”
Moving from Quantity to Quality
Dr. Kamali argued that scientometrics must go beyond counting papers and putting numbers on research output. He also cited the Deputy Minister for Research and Technology, who has cautioned that we should not make research so rigid or slow that it grinds to a halt, and that we should keep a spirit of vitality alive in research.
Supporting the Defenders of Research and Health
Acknowledging the country’s exceptional circumstances and the damage to university infrastructure, Dr. Kamali thanked researchers and faculty members for their tireless efforts. Alongside their role as “defenders of health,” he noted, they are also serving as “defenders of science and research.” Despite every obstacle and sanction, he added, continuing scientific and research work is the cornerstone of the country’s progress and its future resilience. The session brought together distinguished professors and executive managers. It closed by underscoring the need for closer collaboration between scientific centers and universities, so that a cohesive and effective scientific network can take shape.
